STOCKWELL PLAZA

Stockwell Community Centre. London, April 2024.

During his time at university, Barrington was selected to take part in a collaborative residency with the Stockwell Community Centre. The project aimed to redesign the plaza’s existing public furniture, which was previously uninviting and failed to reflect the energy and warmth of the centre.

Introduced to the community through his former tutor, Fabianne Lee-Perrella, and Rachael Hutchinson, Barrington worked closely alongside fellow designers Sarah Marles, Mia Valecce, and Mercedes Plazola Díaz. Together, they co-designed with Matthew and Tino—two active members of the community who were integral to the six-week process.

The result of this collaboration, Conversation Corner, was chosen to become a permanent fixture in Stockwell’s plaza. Designed to encourage connection and conversation, it now serves as a lasting contribution to the area’s social landscape.
