Triangle Space. London, October 2024.
Lant is a speculative project that explores themes of objectification, desirability, and the body by transforming urine into fragrance. Inspired by historical uses of urine and the artificial ideals promoted by the modern perfume industry, Barrington experimented with diet to influence the scent profile of his urine—producing unconventional fragrances such as lavender, vanilla, and fish. The project critiques how beauty is marketed through fantasy and how bodies, particularly queer bodies, are often objectified in the process.
Lant was exhibited as part of One Sheet, a group show where participants were challenged to create a product using only a single material. Responding to this constraint, Barrington presented his fragrances in minimalist glass perfume bottles, allowing the scents to take centre stage. The display encouraged viewers to reflect on their own perceptions of attraction, repulsion, and the fine line between the two.
